However, this ritual of normality has changed drastically since March 2020 when the world fell victim to Covid-19, and most countries went into lockdowns and complete economic shutdowns.

Thinking these lockdowns would only be in effect for a couple of weeks, most people saw it as an extended vacation, but when lockdown seemed to be continuing with no end in sight, we couldn’t afford for businesses not to operate, in fear of an economic collapse, and thus, remote working was born and has since become the new norm.

Thankfully we had the internet, the devices, the tools, and the software we needed to make it a possibility. Using our smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers, we were able to use things like cloud storage, online meeting tools, digital signatures, and remote communication to almost seamlessly adapt our offices to our homes.

Over a year later, the lockdowns have proven effective and life has almost returned to normal. One thing to notice though, is that most businesses are still making use of, and even encouraging working remotely, due to the savings on costs for both employees and employers, the increased productivity, and just how easy it is to do most (definitely not all) jobs remotely.

From being able to share documents, collaborate, and communicate through software like Google Workspace formally known as G-Suite, to being able to send, receive and sign legally binding documents through digital signatures and electronic forms, like those offered by Conclude, and even being able to have team meetings through Google Meet or Zoom it couldn’t be easier.

Adapt Your Business to Social Distancing

We’ve all had to make some immense changes to our lives since the start of 2020. It may not have been Armageddon, but it was certainly the end of life as we knew it. From a complete economic shutdown to multiple levels of lockdown and different restrictions, the changes we had to make came both personally and within business.

The most common defence that we have, is social distancing – which is simple enough in low populated areas but can be a bit difficult when you are in a place of business, where you need to house employees and customers.

Thankfully there are some ways that you can adapt your business to social distancing, and we’re here to help you with that.

Firstly, you need to keep note of the space available at your place of business. Try to ensure there is enough space available to allow people to maintain 1-2 meter distance whenever possible. Then, you can also limit the amount of people on the premises, at any given time – do your best to keep the occupancy at around 50%.

Give employees ample space to work, be comfortable and keep distance. Move desks, chairs and working areas apart from one another, as much as possible. Creating markings on the floor to display distance markers for customers, allows them to easily adhere to social distancing protocols.

Lastly, and probably the safest measure you can take to adapt your business to social distancing, is implementing means and measures to allow employees to work remotely from home, and if possible, allow customers to deal with your business/employees remotely or online. This will ensure minimal contact between people and is by far the most efficient way to adhere to social distancing.

Through software like online meeting tools, instant messaging and ecommerce websites, it is easier than ever for business to function online, without the need for human contact – of course there are still certain things that require face-to-face meetings, but reducing these needs will keep you, your business, your employees and your customers a lot safer during difficult times. 5 Ways to get more done in a day

There are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes it can seem like there just aren’t enough hours to accomplish everything. As an entrepreneur or business owner, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and burn out. Burnout isn’t only bad for you, it’s also bad for business!

Taking control of your day and using your time wisely is key to business success. So, here are five ways you can get more done in a day – effectively.

Scheduling & chunking your time

Taking control of the hours you have available for each day is probably the most crucial way to get more done. Use a calendar, and keep it with you all the time. It doesn’t matter whether you use a paper diary or and electronic device – your calendar is a your best tool for keeping track of everything when you are busy.

Chunking is a technique where you break up your day into time chunks and focus on a group of related tasks for the duration. Chunking tasks into logical groupings could mean grouping work you must do in a specific place or for a particular project or client. Chunking your work will help you reduce friction and increase efficiency.

Once you know what your tasks for the day and the time chunks available are, you have to prioritise! Plan the critical, time-bound and significant activities first, then add the smaller and less critical tasks in between.

The ABC prioritisation method uses the idea of “consequences” to help you figure out what to tackle first. An “A” task is crucial, and failure to do it will have negative consequences. A “B” task is important and will result in positive outcomes if you do it. A “C” task is something that you should or would like to do but has no significant consequences either way.

Multitasking seems like a great way to get more done, but it scatters your focus. There is no such thing as multitasking – you are merely switching your attention rapidly between tasks. Unfortunately, there is a mental “start-up” cost to this switching, and it means multitaskers make more mistakes (sometimes expensive ones), end up being less productive, and tire out faster. Additionally, getting distracted by social media, colleagues, or simply day-dreaming can end up costing you many hours.

The Pomodoro Technique is one of the cleverest approaches to beating procrastination and building focus time into your day. It’s straightforward: all you need to do is set a timer for, say, 15 minutes and until the timer goes, you focus only on the task at hand.

This trick works for procrastination when a task’s size feels overwhelming or it’s something you find boring. You don’t have to finish it; you just have to do it for 15 minutes.

Although the “official” time limit for The Pomodoro Technique is 25 minutes, I prefer 15 minutes because anyone can do almost anything for just 15 minutes! And, you will very often find that after 15 minutes, you will have achieved some momentum on a task you’ve been procrastinating about and may well choose to reset your timer and continue until you’re done. It also helps when you find yourself easily distracted – it’s easy to ignore your phone for 15 minutes!
